AFTER over 30 years of running terrier and lurcher racing in West Wales, the Tenby Dog Racers have reached the end of the track.
Over the years, the popular races have raised many thousands of pounds for charity, but it has now been decided to call it a day.
After making the decision, the Tenby Dog Racers sold off all their equipment, and with money in hand had a surplus of £1,569.96.
A meeting was called and it was agreed to give all the funds to the Lluest Horse and Pony Trust as a Christmas gift, in recognition of all the good work that the charity does in looking after and rehousing neglected horses and ponies.
Founded in 1985, the trust is located at Llangadog, Carmarthenshire and cares for up to 30 equines at any one time on its 40-acre farm, with around 100 on long-term loan and many more in short-term loan homes.
A spokesman for the Tenby Dog Racers thanked all the dog owners and landowners who had supported the events over the years.
Pictured presenting the £1,569.96 cheque to the Lluest Horse and Pony Trust are Tenby Dog Racers David (Bodie) Bolton, Eric Bates, Georgie Bowler, Michael (Spud) Bolton, Jill Jones, Dawn Harries and Lorraine Bolton. Others who have played a part with the group in recent years are Richard Jones, Phil Jenkins and Dai Roberts. The cheque was received on behalf of the Trust by Rhian, Dionne, William and Caiden.
