A PEMBROKESHIRE company has helped a team of people with Type 1 diabetes keep their insulin cool as they cycled 4,205 miles across America for charity.

FRIO UK, Haverfordwest-based makers of the world’s first patented insulin cooling wallet, and its sister company FRIO USA, supplied the international team with over 90 products including wallets that keep insulin and other medicines cool for more than 45 hours.

Twenty people with Type 1 diabetes between 17 and 52 years old formed the ‘Bike Beyond’ team that cycled from New York to San Francisco over the course of 10 weeks throughout June, July and August, raising over $788,000 for California-based charity, Beyond Type 1.

The riders hailed from the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and 14 different US states.

Chris Wolsey Managing Director at FRIO UK said: “Our insulin cooling wallets are used by people across the world and are invaluable for those who are travelling, especially in hot countries like the USA. A huge congratulations to the team on the completion of their journey!”

Siddharth Sharma, the only UK rider, said: “Thanks to FRIO for sponsoring the whole team with their insulin cooling wallets. It was great to have their support.”

The Bike Beyond story will be showcased through a documentary that will be premiered on World Diabetes Day.
