A FIVE-SCREEN cinema, 60-bed hotel and ten shops could be coming to Haverfordwest.
Pembrokeshire County Council have received two separate planning applications from investment company Conygar to develop agricultural land at Slade Lane.
The first application is for a “cinema and restaurant development, including hard and soft landscaping and lighting” while the second is for “construction (including earthworks) and operation of a retail-led mixed use development comprising 10 retail units, a hotel, a future development platform, associated infrastructure, hard and soft landscaping and lighting.”
Access to the two proposed developments would be from the new roundabout on Thomas Parry Way, and the site would cover roughly 6.7 hectares, with more than 500 parking spaces would being created built.
The design and access statement by architects Fletcher Rae (UK) Ltd says: “The principal aim of the proposal is securing detailed planning permission for a cinema and restaurant development on the site with use classes D2 (assembly and leisure), supporting A3 (food and drink), associated car parking” and “retail-led mixed-use development on the site with use classes A1 (food and non-food), C1 (60 bed hotel), supporting A3 (food and drink), associated car parking, landscaping and service delivery areas.”
In their proposal design philosophy, the architects have said: “The overall design philosophy for the development for the development is to produce a range of modern buildings in terms of appearance, environmental performance, provide future flexible space, address the relationship between the site and its semi-rural context and satisfy the needs of the local area, visitors and tenants alike.”
The site was formerly earmarked for a Sainsbury’s superstore, but back in March 2015, the Milford Mercury reported that following a “review of future interests”, the supermarket giant had withdrawn its plans for the store near Thomas Parry Way.
Pembrokeshire County Council leader Cllr Jamie Adams said in 2015 that plans for more than 700 houses on the site would continue, despite Sainsbury’s selling off their interests to Conygar, and Pembrokeshire County Council have recently confirmed the housing development would continue regardless of the two new proposed developments.
Robert Ware, CEO of Conygar said: “Following the withdrawal of Sainsbury’s interest in Slade Lane, We believe that our revised proposals represent the optimal solution for the site and would result in an exciting new retail and leisure destination, which would further enhance and support the on-going development of Haverfordwest.”
The site notice ends on July 29 while the publicity notice ends on July 27.
