A ST CLEARS nurse has retired after six decades of dedicated service.
Nan Michael, a palliative care nurse, has been honoured for her outstanding commitment to nursing throughout south and west Wales following her retirement from the NHS.
She began her career in 1956 as a pre-nursing student at Porth & District Hospital before completing her training in the Royal Gwent Hospital.
After moving to west Wales in 1976, Nan developed her career in various roles before becoming Senior Sister in 1990 on the surgical ward in Glangwilli Hospital. For the last 15 years Nan has given her time to caring for patients at Ty Cymorth Day Hospice.
Nan said: “I have enjoyed a wonderful career and it has been a privilege to have worked with so many hard working dedicated colleagues.
“I would like to thank everyone I have ever worked with from domestic and clerical staff to nurses of all grades.
“For the past 15 years I have been fortunate enough to have worked in the Palliative Care Service at Ty Cymorth. The courage, determination and humour of patients has been a very rewarding and uplifting experience.
“I wish to thank my colleagues at Ty Cymorth for their support and commitment during this time. I’d also like to say a big thank you to the Hospice committee for their never ending fundraising efforts and support.”
