One hundred years, more than one hundred visitors and nearly 200 cards: A wonderful day of celebration was held in the home of Mrs Mary Ann Thomas last Tuesday, April 14, as she celebrated her 100th birthday.
Born in Rhosycaerau, Mrs Thomas was one of six children and daughter of Elizabeth and Henry Evans. When she was 12 she and her brothers and sisters moved to Goitan Farm, Pencaer. She had a very happy childhood and attended Henner school under the headship of Mr. Lake.
She moved to Cilau West, Pencaer when she married James Thomas and she lived there for 65 years until she moved to Fishguard.
While living in Cilau James and Mary kept visitors, many of whom became lifelong friends, and who made the journey to be with her for her birthday.
Friends and relations from far and wide came to wish Mary well. Visitors feasted on delicious birthday cakes, generously made as a present by Sian James, previously Cotton, who lived in Cilau Ganol as a child.
Goodwick Brass Band also visited the house to play Mary 'Penblwydd Hapus'. Instead of presents she asked people to donate money to the band, to date the collection stands at £1,100.
Mary would like to thank all her friends and relations for a wonderful day, especially her daughter Rahel and husband Meic who made sure that the arrangements went smoothly.
