Big plans are afoot for play areas in Fishguard and Godwick, thanks to the town's Save Our Playgrounds group.
The group met last Saturday to decide where next to focus its attentions after successfully helping get new equipment installed in Goodwick Parrog Park.
The meeting was attended by county councillor, Gwilym Price, Mayor Mike Lloyd and his deputy Richard Grosvenor, as well as town councillor Mike Mayberry.
The group’s next focus will be raising money for the football field at Stop and Call, Goodwick, which is badly in need of a new set of goal posts.
After that the group plans to go full steam ahead to raise money for new equipment for Fishguard’s Lota Park.
They are currently trying to get hold of a survey done for Pembrokeshire County Council. It is believed that the survey puts the usable life of the current play equipment at two years.
“It’s going to be a massive two or three year job for Lota Park,” said one of the group’s founders Dani O'Connor.
“It’s going to take a lot of fundraising and is going to be a massive project.”
She said that the group was hoping to find out what local school children want in the park, it also hopes to work closely with the town’s skate park group.
She said that they had been quoted a figure of between £60,000 and £70,000 for new equipment in Lota Park.
“I’m excited and looking forward to getting my teeth into it,” said Dani. “If the community get behind us it will be alright. I’m looking forward to organising different events for local people and raising money at the same time.
“Hopefully we will get the money for Stop and Call and then build up momentum.”
The group will have a stall at local fund raising events over the summer months. For more information, or to get involved, visit the Save our Playgrounds Facebook page.
