A PUPIL from Ysgol Dewi Sant has been recognised by the High Sheriff of Dyfed.
Liam Murphy from Croesgoch attended the Young Persons Awards at a ceremony in Llandeilo on Saturday, February 28, where he was one of eleven recipients.
The 14 year-old suffers with amniotic band syndrome which means that his fingers and toes are fused together.
From a very young age Liam has to undergo more than a dozen operations in Morriston and Great Ormond Street Hospitals, including corrective surgery to his right hand and his feet which limited him greatly at first.
Liam joined the Fishgaurd Sea Cadets in September 2013 and has loved every minute of it. Liam’s High Sheriff of Dyfed award will help fund a trip for him on TS Royalist in late August.
His mum Sara Murphy said: “Liam has changed so much since he started cadets. He has gained an amazing amount of confidence and self worth. He has matured and has had immense support to do things he never thought he would be able to do.
“The best thing Liam ever did was join the cadets and myself and my husband Will thank all at Skirmisher for what they have done.”
