A DOZEN dazzling dragons were paraded through the streets of St Davids on Saturday (February 28) as part of the city’s St David’s Day celebrations.
The National Park’s ever popular Dragon Parade featured fiery creations from schools across the county, as well as Care in the Community and the local branches of the Rainbows and Guides.
The colourful procession left Oriel y Parc at 11am and was led down High Street by the 948 Squadron Air Training Corps Band and the Mayor, Councillor David Halse.
Oriel y Parc manager Jenn Jones said: “It’s been brilliant. The schools have all enjoyed it and we’ve already had a couple which didn’t take part this year say they want to come next year.
“We’ve tried to do a little bit extra this year to make a day of it, like having some stalls from local producers, face painting and a choir. And this afternoon we’ve got Eloise Williams coming here to launch her new book and she’s doing a couple of storytelling sessions as well.”
The pilgrims walk from St Nons Chapel arrived at Oriel y Parc at midday ahead of the Bishop’s Blessing on Cross Square. Afterwards everyone sang the National Anthem accompanied by the Ysgol Dewi Sant Brass Band.
Also taking place in the city over the weekend was Ras Dewi Sant, a Twmpath dance, an exhibition by the St Davids and Dewisland Historical Society, a vintage bike run, the St Davids Mini Rugby Challenge Cup and a full peal attempt in the cathedral bell tower.
