A woman who set her own flat on fire after a booze and drugs birthday bender is due to be sentenced today.
Natasha Bradbury, 26, of Chestnut Way, Mount Estate, Milford Haven, admitted a charge of arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered, at Swansea Crown Court earlier this montyh.
At a previous hearing at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court, Bradbury had admitted possession of cannabis and breaching a conditional discharge imposed for a previous drugs offence.
Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting in Haverfordwest, said police had been called to Bradbury’s address at 5am on January 17 following reports of a disturbance.
Neighbours witnessed her repeatedly kicking her front door, before putting her hand through her letterbox and, using a cigarette lighter, setting fire to the curtains on the back of the front door.
“A number of the defendant’s neighbours were in the vicinity, and she was heard shouting that she had set fire to her flat,” said Mr Pritchard-Jones.
He added that Bradbury was also heard claiming she “didn’t care” what happened to nearby residents and appeared to be “very, very drunk”.
Bradbury’s boyfriend and another man managed to force the door of the flat open and extinguished the flames .
In a police interview, Bradbury said she had been drinking and taking drugs, experienced a “blackout” and couldn’t remember what she had done.
Mr Pritchard Jones said: “We have a young lady who has admitted in interview getting in to such a state she sets fire to her own property and can’t even remember doing it.”
At Swansea Crown Court on Tuesday, Judge Keith Thomas agreed that Bradbury should be examined by a psychiatrist, before sentencing. She will be sentenced today, February 27. She and was further remanded in custody meanwhile.
Judge Thomas warned Bradbury a prison sentence could follow irrespective of what was said in the reports.
