MY week’s break at The Granary at Roch Mill in the middle of April 2015 will be a trip down memory lane.

From 1941 to 1944, my father was responsible for John Morgan Builders (Cardiff) Ltd’s contract constructing Talbenny airfield. We had moved from Cardiff and were renting Bryn Awel bungalow in Roch. Towards the end of that time, aged four, I attended the local school.

A number of events still linger in my memory, two, in particular. My father was a boxing enthusiast, and I vividly recall attending a tournament and being introduced to three boxing legends, Jack Peterson, Jimmy Wilde and Frank Moody. I have a copy of an undated (I assume for wartime security) programme of the event. The three gentlemen autographed the back of the programme for me.

The second memory was my father showing me the wreckage of a crashed aircraft with one wing reaching out over a roadside hedgerow.

Alas, Bryn Awel Bungalow appears to have been demolished.

However, I would love to find out its location. My parents were friendly with the Synetts, a farming family, Avril their daughter was my first school friend.

If any of my nostalgia is of interest, perhaps one of your readers could provide some of their memories to fill in the gaps. My parents told me in later years a numbers of their memories, which might be of interest to this reader.
