Plans for a multi-million pound regeneration of Milford Haven marina look set to be approved by plannerstoday (Tuesday), following a site visit.

The Port of Milford Haven’s ‘masterplan’ application was first discussed at a Pembrokeshire County Council planning committee meeting in December, where members voted in favour of visiting the site on January 14 before making a decision.

The report to be discussed on February 24 now includes a new application for the extension of the existing Dock Wall and erection of a Marina Services Building, including the relocation of the Grade II Listed former Docks Office Building which also includes the rebuilding of the whole listed building.

The previous application for the Marina Services Building that included the partial rebuilding of the Grade II Listed building has been withdrawn.

The committee wanted to get a better idea of the impact the substantial proposals would have on the area, following mixed reviews from local people.

The outline plans, covering a 22 hectare site, which include proposals to build up to 160 new homes, new retail and marine leisure facilities, and a residential care home, have been years in the making.

The 160 homes would be a mix of houses and apartments along with non-food and food retail stores, offices as well as pubs, bars and restaurants.

There are up to 70 new marina boat berths included in the plans as well as marina related leisure, boat repairs/sales and a replacement boat yard.

The outline application is recommended for approval subject to the completion of a section 106 agreement and the approval of the listed building applications and a Conservation Area Consent application to demolition the Burnyeates building.

A number of conditions relating to approval also have to be met including a phasing strategy, reserved matters, cycle and pedestrian infrastructure improvements in phase one, maximum retail floor-space, no pharmacy or post office, construction environmental management plan and a Welsh language strategy.

The meeting of the county planning committee takes place today, Tuesday, at County Hall, Haverfordwest at 10am.
