Staying safe online is the theme of an anti cyber-crime event for residents and businesses in Carmarthenshire this evening (Friday).
Phishing, the latest malware and click-jacking are some of the threats that will be under the spotlight.
Members of the UK government’s Get Safe Online team, together with officers from the City of London police will join local officers to share information about the threats, illegal scams and hoaxes that exist in cyberspace.
They will also be providing practical advice and tips on the steps that people can take to stay safe.
The event will take place at Carmarthen Library, with a workshop of local business owners today Friday, February 20 at 5.30pm. A drop-in session for residents and local community groups will take place tomorrow, Saturday February 21, from 10am to 1pm.
Dyfed-Powys police spokesman said: “We are receiving more and more reports from people who have been scammed by criminals and have lost thousands of pounds, documents, IT systems and their online security.
“We want businesses to ensure that they have the latest security software installed on their computer to browse safely online.
“By taking basic crime prevention steps, people can significantly reduce their chances of becoming a victim of crime online.”
