THIS is a copy of a letter I have sent to Brains Brewery, concerning the continued closure of the ‘Royal Oak’ Pub in Fisguard Square.
At a time when we are being awarded funds to promote more tourism in the area, it is ironic that Fishguard Square has so many pubs standing empty, some for many years, it would be a scandal if the ‘Royal Oak’ goes the same way. I am a resident of Fishguard.
Dear Sirs, This Iconic ‘Last Invasion Pub’ has now stood empty for many months, when are you going to re-open it ? It is directly opposite where the Last Invasion Tapestry is available to view, and is part of the Tourist Circuit for Fishguard and Goodwick.
This ‘closed for business’ pub has already caused a great loss of trade to us of the tourist accommodation trade, over Christmas and the New Year during which we saw cancellations because of all the empty pubs around the square, The Farmers Arms, The Abergwaun Hotel (also a Brains property) and of course the ‘iconic’ Royal Oak, where the Last Invasion surrender document was signed in 1797.
If you cannot find tenants then you should sell, to allow us to carry on with our businesses, because at the present you are destroying local trade with your inaction.
