THE BBC1 Countryfile programme on Sunday 8th February, 2015, reported on a plan to lay an off-shore cable from Glasgow to Liverpool at a cost of a billion pounds so that Scotland may export their unpredictable and sporadic wind generated electricity south.
Scottish wind farms are already paid millions of pounds when the do not produce electrical power. Surely Government/Grid are not this stupid to consider spending such sums of money for the same end – why not just burn the money - will Countryfile be claiming the have found the Loch Ness monster next Sunday?
Although it would make much more sense if the ‘real’ reason for this cable is to eventually export electricity to Scotland from cheap and relatively clean gasfired power stations of the efficient CCGT variety - a consequence of the potential Lancashire shale gas bonanza.
They are sitting on a gold mine waiting to be exploited.
