I WAS very interested to read Vicky Moller’s letter “RE: Trident move talk”
(Western Telegraph February 4).
There are four questions which I wish to put to all candidates for the forthcoming parliamentary election in South Pembrokeshire.
They are:- How can nuclear weapons protect the citizens of our country when the use of them would destroy civilization as we know it?
Why is it that many countries do not feel the need for such weapons; and, if we are continuing to have them for “our security”, doesn’t it send a clear message to other states to do likewise?
I understand that it was agreed in the Non Proliferation Treaty in 1968 that nuclear nations would negotiate a treaty to eliminate nuclear weapons.
What progress, if any, is being made?
At a time when Britain’s public services, such as the National Health, libraries, prisons and Social Services, are under such financial restraints, is it sensible to consider spending billions of pounds on upgrading Trident?
Won’t it be interesting to learn our candidates responses?
