I WAS very pleased to read the Katy Woodhouse report about the illegal parking on pavements and its dangers to pedestrians, including disabled and blind people with guide dogs, who rely on the dropped kerbs as a marker and access to cross the road.
These pedestrian pathways have been laid at tax-payers expense since 1945 and more recently the ‘Safe Routes to School’ programme has increased these pathways throughout Pembrokeshire.
The EU regeneration and health and safety funds have filtered down to all local authorities and this tax-payers money was not intended to assist thoughtless drivers of cars and delivery vehicles to park them.
I would suggest that PCC Highways Dept paint double yellow lines in the road alongside these access and exit points to remind lazy drivers to walk a few more yards.
The kerbs outside shops and business premises have been dropped over the past sixty years for the vehicle drivers benefit, also at tax-payers expense, surely this should be enough for them.
I congratulate Cllr David Bryan and his access officer.
Allan Hunt on their mission to redress the current situation for pedestrians and disabled mobility drivers and the blind person with a guide dog.
This national problem begs the question ‘Why have the police been so tolerant with lazy, thoughtless drivers for the past 60 years?’ I once held a driving licence for all those years but unfortunately I am now disabled and partially blind.
