A Saundersfoot chef will be pitting his skills against the best in Wales today (Monday) in the final of the Junior Chef of Wales final.
Andrew Tabberner, 22, who is chef de partie at Coast Restaurant at Coppet Hall, clinched his place at the showpiece cook-off next month by winning the contest’s South Wales heat.
Andrew fell in love with cooking while at school, and hopes to become a senior sous chef within the next five years.
He said he was ‘over the moon’ to win the heat, and thanked his head chef, Will Holland, and his family for their support.
Andrew’s winning menu scored 89 points out of 100. It was a starter of mackerel three ways with cucumber and horseradish; a main of cawl with Welsh lamb fillet and sweetbread, garlic pomme puree, charred leek and confit garlic and a dessert of cinnamon panna cotta, gingerbread, star anise jelly, black pepper and vanilla caramel and mulled wine syrup.
The final will be at Coleg Llandrillo, Rhos-on-Sea today, February 16, with the winner representing Wales in Greece in May 2016.
