Efforts to send members of Pennar’s school choir to a cultural event at Disneyland Paris step up a gear this evening with a fundraising concert.
Friends of Pennar School are hoping to raise £5,000 to take 26 members of the 32-strong school choir to Disneyland Paris for a cultural event in early March. So far £3,000 has been raised.
One of the many fundraising activities was a New Year’s Day fundraising swim at Saundersfoot – the brainchild of Pembroke Dock councillor Peter Kraus.
Pennar Community School Headmaster, Damon McGarvey, was joined at the swim by Tom Kaijaks, Ryan Llewellyn, Ian Osborne and Western Telegraph reporter Bruce Sinclair, who was standing in for Cllr Kraus – who was unable to attend due to ill health.
Penar’s Deputy Head, Jo Edwards, also raised £200 at the Tenby Boxing Day swim.
Ryan Llewellyn has raised £370 for the cause, bolstered by a donation of £100 from the fire brigade, presented by Paul Dyson.
Cllr Kraus has also raised £580 for the choir.
Headteacher Damon McGarvie said he had been astounded by the public’s generosity. saying: “Each child is going for £100; it’s quite remarkable, we’ve raised at least £3,000, we’ve collected £3,000 easily.
“The children were bag packing in Tesco on Saturday; the public were very generous, giving £240 for one group. It’s full steam ahead here.”
Cllr Kraus is now planning a fundraising concert at Pembroke Dock’s Pater Hall, taking place this evening, Friday, February 13, from 7.30pm, with doors open at 6.30pm.
Tickets are available from the Pater Hall on 01646 622788, or on the door.
