‘LIES,damn lies and statistics!’ So went my thoughts on reading again that 74% voted yes to a general need to increase Welsh Medium Provision of education in Pembrokeshire.

May we have the questionnaire published, the numbers of responses received and the number sent out. Is it truly representative of Pembrokeshire as a whole?

There are many many parents (and children) who would like a real choice between Welsh and English (the two official languages of Wales) offered on a level playing field. Yes let it be assessable, but not the only option, as in the case in many parts of Pembrokeshire today.

It is very good to be fluent in a second language, more especially for the high fliers.

However be warned. Many children from Welsh Medium Primary Schools enter secondary education with an English reading age of seven.

This can be exacerbated in a secondary Welsh system.

The high fliers can wing it and benefits. But the onesize- fits-all policy penalised a lot of young people who will learn, and express themselves most efficiently in the language they grew up with, English.

For once I agree with Jamie Adams. There must be choice, wherever you live.
