The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is independently investigating the death of a man in police custody at Haverfordwest on Saturday.
Meirion James, 53, was arrested following an incident at an address in Crymych, Pembrokeshire, at around 4.25 am on Saturday 31 January.
He was taken to the custody suite at Haverfordwest Police Station. He was seen by a police medical examiner and was deemed fit to be detained.
While in police custody an incident occurred at around 11am during which Mr James became unresponsive and an ambulance was called.
Resuscitation was attempted but Mr James was pronounced dead at 11.30am at Withybush Hospital.
Mr James had been involved on the previous day in a minor road traffic incident at Llanrhystud on the A487 which police had attended.
Following the incident Mr James was taken to Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth.
The IPCC is asking for any witnesses to the road traffic incident which took place close to the Neuadd Goffa memorial hall and Texaco garage on the A487 at Llanrhystud at around 1pm on Friday 30 January to come forward.
Mr James had been driving a Fiat Panda.

A post mortem has been carried out but cause of death is yet to be determined and further tests are taking place. HM Coroner has been informed.
IPCC investigators have made contact with Mr James’ family to explain their role and how the investigation will progress.
IPCC Commissioner, Jan Williams, said: “We are at a very early stage of our investigation into Mr James’ death, which will I am sure have been a traumatic time for all involved.
"This will be a very difficult time for Mr James’ family and friends, and they have my condolences.”
