PEMBROKESHIRE’S six recycling centres could soon be closed two days a week as part of cost-saving measures.
The proposal is due to be heard at Monday’s, February 9, meeting of Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cabinet.
A report for Cabinet members states the service, open seven days a week, costs some £900,000 a year and the proposed changes would save £100,000.
It is proposed Pembroke Dock’s Waterloo site, and both the St Davids and Hermon sites, be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Haverfordwest’s Winsel site, Fishguard’s Manorwen site and the Crane Cross facility at Saundersfoot, currently under construction, would be closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The proposals would also see amendments to the hours opened, with reductions at some sites.
The report concedes there may be reductions in the number of employees.
“There will, however, be significant implications for employees in terms of their working arrangements and it is envisaged that the current work force will need to reduce from current levels.”
The report states there are a number of current vacancies and temporary staff positions, and the proposed changes will not lead to any compulsory redundancies.
It is recommended that public and staff consultation is started on the proposed changes.
