Investors interested in putting wind in the sails of a community turbine project are being sought by sustainability group Transition Bro Gwaun.
The group is offering a guaranteed 4% interest on loans to finance the Abergwaun community turbine at Trebover Farm, Llanychaer.
The business arm of Transition Bro Gwaun, Transition Community Venture Ltd, is looking to raise £280,000 in loans and donations for its 50% share in the turbine. This money will be used for purchase and installation.
The group is currently seeking expressions of interest from those who would be able to lend a minimum of £1,000 for a term of five years.
"So far we have had expressions of interest amounting to £74,000 which is quite encouraging," said Transition Bro Gwaun founder member Tom Latter.
The proposed turbine has a hub height of 30 metres and a blade diameter of 30 metres, which equates to a tip height of 45 metres. It will produce 600,000 KWh per year, the equivalent of powering 150 homes.
Transition Bro Gwaun's share of profits from the turbine will help to fund other community projects which would be able to apply for grants for low carbon initiatives such as insulation, electric car clubs and local food growing or preserving projects.
The group will be holding a meeting early next month to update on the project at the Transition Cafe, High Street, Fishguard.
