A LUCKY member of Eglwyswrw Young Farmers’ Club has embarked on a trip of a lifetime.
Twenty three year-old Carys Vaughan was chosen back in November to represent Pembrokeshire YFC and Wales YFC in the USA.
She said: “It’s such an honour to be selected to go on this trip and to represent Wales YFC over in Kansas. With the YFC calendar being so full and busy, it has only really sunk in during these past few weeks that I’m actually going.
“I would like to thank all of my sponsors who have made the trip possible.”
Carys was due to fly out to Kansas on Saturday, May 31 to spend five weeks with two host families that have links with 4-H Youth Development, which is the USA’s equivalent to Wales’ Young Farmers' Clubs.
The first family Carys is staying with farms around 500 acres and milks around 90 cows, and the second family has a custom harvesting business, and travel from the south of USA to the north of USA harvesting thousands of acres of crops for different farms.
Carys has been involved with Eglwyswrw Young Farmers’ Club for seven years and has held many posts within the club, including programme secretary and club representative at meetings. She is currently the secretary of the branch.
While not busy with YFC, she works as a planner with Hayston Developments and Planning.
