THE Wales Triathlon held in Fishguard last summer has been shortlisted for a national award.
The Activity Wales event on August 3, 2013 is up for the best race of the season (with up to 500 entrants) in the 220 Triathlon Awards.
It faces stiff competition, with Aberfeldy Middle Distance, Ashbourne Duathlon and Ilkley Triathlon also in the category.
The winner will be announced next month during the Triathlon Show.
The course began in Fishguard Harbour with a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile cycle to St Davids and back, followed by a 13.1 mile run around Fishguard.
The men’s race was won by Tenby's Oliver Simon in just over four and a half hours, and Jayne Arnold was the first female to cross the finish line in a time of five hours and 44 minutes.
The event was a Welsh middle distance championship, which attracted a mix of elite athletes and first timers, many of which were gearing up for Ironman Wales, which was took place in Tenby just a few weeks later.
Entries are open for the 2014 Wales Triathlon in Fishguard on August 2. Visit www.walestriathlon.com for more information.
