IDEAS on how to mark the centenary of the Great War in Fishguard and Goodwick have been discussed by town councillors.
Councillor Chris John, who is leading the World War I committee, said he had a number of events in the pipeline for 2014.
He said: “The project which stands out at the moment is a six week exhibition of World War I memorabilia in Fishguard Town Hall during July and August.
“I’ve been onto the Welsh Regiment Museum to see if we can borrow some stuff.”
He added that the local schools have shown interest in doing art and poetry projects to mark the occasion, while the air cadets want to do a parade wearing replica war uniforms.
The Point Youth Club is looking to produce a documentary of what it would be like in the twin tows if a war were to break out now, rather than 1914.
Other ideas include a local football match between Fishguard and Goodwick to mark the Christmas truce, which was unofficial ceasefire that took place between British and German troops around the Christmas period of 1914.
There will also be a memorial service, a book of remembrance, and a world map showing the grave of every local soldier.
Cllr John said he would be coordinating his ideas with county-wide events, and hoped to finalise plans within the next few weeks.
