Mrs D M Hutchinson

Narberth

MRS Diane Margaret Hutchinson of Garfield Gardens, Narberth, passed away on Ward 10 Withybush Hospital on December 11. She was 62.

Originally from Templeton, she moved to Cowbridge at the age of 17 when she worked at the Bear Hotel and newsagents, before moving to Narberth, where she worked at the Plas Hyfred, a dinner lady at Narberth School. She retired due to ill health from Lloyds chemist in Narberth.

Her main interests were her family, looking after her grandchildren, keeping in contact with her friends and watching soaps.

She battled with ovarian cancer for five years, bravely undergoing many treatments with the support of family and friends.

She was predeceased by her mother, father, brother David and son Matthew.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Paul Hutchinson (husband); Kate and Joanne Hutchinson (daughters); Kai and Tyler (grandchildren); Dawn and Nigel Williams (sister and brother-in-law); Ashley and Ryan Williams (nephews); Dennis (brother-in-law), plus numerous cousins, family and friends.

The funeral service was held at Templeton United Reformed Church followed by internment at Templeton cemetery and was officiated by Rev Huw George.

The bearers were Ashley and Ryan Williams (nephews), along with Stephen Harrison and Jason Nicholas.

There were family flowers only with donations to Cancer Research.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr Ken Davies and Sons, Clunderwen.

 

Ms M L Liniker

Formerly of Roch

THE death occurred on December 28 at Warwick Hospital after a short illness of Margaret Lucy Liniker, aged 97. The funeral took place at Oakley Wood Crematorium, Leamington Spa.

Margaret was born in Leamington Spa on August 3 1916.

She attended Leamington School for Girls, worked for her father in the printing business and at Marks and Spencer before joining the Royal Air Force. Here she met her future husband Bill Liniker.

After the war Bill and Margaret set up farming together in Wales first at Runways Kiln, Marloes, and eventually at Rock Farm, Roch, which they worked together for more than 25 years. After Bill’s sudden death Margaret retired and eventually returned to Leamington in 2000 where she spent a happy retirement with her brother, Laurie and daughter Linda.

The funeral was officiated by the Rev C Wilson. The chief mourners were David and Ute Liniker, Janet and Jay Stanley and Linda Cork and partner Tony Eastbury as well as grandchildren Elizabeth, Richard, Jason with Katherine, Jessica and Laurie.

 

Mrs R Webb

Haverfordwest

MANY family and friends, including the numerous ones from the county bowling association were saddened to hear of the recent death on January 1 of Mrs Rhiannon Webb of Merlins Avenue, Haverfordwest.

Rhiannon was born in Newport, Pembrokeshire, the only child of Bertie and Ivy Davies. Until the age of three, she was brought up in Bertie’s mother’s home in Fishguard before the family moved the Haroldston Close, Haverfordwest.

Following her education at Freystrop and Taskers School for Girls, Rhiannon worked for the Ministry of Defence at Brawdy, Trecwn and Milford and then as a civilian clerk at Haverfordwest Police Station.

Rhiannon was a keen bowler, and achieved the highest accolade in 1994 when she was chosen to represent Wales against England in Blackpool.

Despite a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease in 2001, Rhiannon never lost her enthusiasm for travel both in the UK and abroad. With her husband Barrie, they were known throughout the county for organising 15 Bowling Tours to Torquay. Even as recently as November of last year they organised a Tinsel and Turkey week in Llandudno for the local Parkinson’s Group.

A caring and lovely person with a warm personality and wicked sense of humour, Rhiannon was highly regarded and will be sorely missed by her many friends and family alike.

The well attended funeral service and burial took place at St David’s Church, Prendergast, and was officiated by Father Paul Boyle. The bearers were Win Howells, Mary Codd, Janet Price, Margaret Sanders and at the graveside Michael Webb, Roger Webb, Graham James and Ted Sanders.

The principal mourners were Barrie (husband); Mary Webb (mother-in-law); Michael and Anne (brother and sister-in-law); Roger and Roberta (brother and sister-inlaw); Sue and Graham (sister and brother-in-law) together with many other relatives, friends and neighbours.

There were immediate family flowers only with donations in lieu, if desired, to the Parkinson’s UK Pembrokeshire Branch. These are being accepted by Councillor Rob Summons, 19 West Street, Rosemarket, Milford Haven SA73 1JH. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

 

Mrs J D Lane

Kent

THE death occurred after a long illness on December 16 of Mrs Joan Dorothy Lane (nee Cole) of Kent and formerly of Axton Hill, Hundleton, Pembroke.

Joan was born at Axton Hill in 1946 and was the only daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Owen Cole. She was a pupil at Stackpole School until 1956 when family circumstances saw her move to live in Oxford, where she continued her education.

Joan then moved to the Tottenham area of London where in 1970 she met and married Mr William Lane.

They had two children Colin and Barry.

The funeral took place on January 10 at Eltham Crematorium where the mourners were her two sons Colin and Barrie, their wives, and their three grandchildren Isobelle, Toby and Isaac; Mr Mervyn Cole and Mr Stuart Cole and their wives, Mr Gordon Cole (brothers and sisters-in-law).

There were family floral wreaths. The divided ashes were interred at Eltham Crematorium and will later be interred at Warren Church, near Castlemartin, in the family grave.

Donations if desired may be sent to Mr Stuart Cole, 5 Cricket Grove, Hundleton, Pembroke and cheques made payable to Ellenor Lions Hospices.

 

Mrs O Morris

Houghton

FAMILY and friends gathered at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on January 17 for the funeral of Olwen Morris who died at Williamston Nursing Home, Houghton, on January 12 aged 102 years.

A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she leaves to mourn Yvonne and Graham, Jeanette and Brian (daughters and sonsin- law); Peter and Carol, Nigel and Sue (sons and daughters- in-law); grandchildren Nicola and husband Colin, Suzanne and husband Mark, Gareth and partner Emma, Jon and wife Gill, Carey and husband Jason; great grandchildren Kieran, Benjamin, Bryn, Freddie, Jaxon and in Canada Emily, Hannah, Logan, Gemma and Molly, also left to mourn is her sister Peggy.

There were family flowers only and the service was officiated by Rev Huw Davies, Vicar of Uzmaston Church, where her ashes were interred in the grave of her late husband Billy.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Glyn Thomas and Son, Fresytrop.

 

Mr H Jones

Formerly of Pembrokeshire

HUGH Jones, former player for Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Welsh Colleges (teammate of Barry John) rugby teams, also former county and Welsh High Jump Champion, has died aged 69.

The son of Rufus (railway station master and former mayor of Pembroke) and Sylvia, brother of Pat, Hugh was born and raised in Pembroke.

He was an outstanding sportsman and went on to train as a sport and science teacher at Trinity College, Carmarthen, 1963-66. After the death of his father, Hugh returned from Surrey, where he had been teaching, and worked as a quantity surveyor for William Press Ltd.

In 1969, after marrying Suzanne, (also from Pembroke) Hugh moved to live in Nuneaton where he also played for the town rugby team.

Pembroke Rugby Club lowered their flag to half-mast and Nuneaton Rugby Club held a minute’s silence as a mark of respect. Hugh and his wife Suzie still have family members living in Pembroke and have regularly visited the area, together with their sons, Rhys and Gwyn.

Hugh’s funeral took place on January 24 at Nuneaton Crematorium followed by a service at Manor Court Baptist Church.

 

Mrs D M Hooper

Wolfscastle

THE death occurred peacefully on January 9 at Withybush Hospital of Mrs Dilys Margaret Hooper, of Brynawel, Wolfscastle (formerly of Bryn Seion, Solva). She was 92.

Dilys was born in Little Asheston near Brawdy on August 3, 1921. She was the second child of Daniel and Margaret Hughes and her early years were spent at Croes Wen and Kingherriot.

She was predeceased by her eldest sister Letty Davies in 2005, her brother William Hughes in1987, and younger sister Jessie Raymond in 2003.

On leaving school she worked on a farm where she met her husband John Charles Hooper and they married on September 7, 1940. They spent most of their married life at Prendergast, Lower Solva, with their son Ronald before moving to Bryn Seion in 1970. Sadly in 1983 John passed away and in 1998 her beloved son Ronald died.

In the 1990s Dilys was a frequent visitor to Wolfscastle where she eventually made her home at Brynawel with the late Will Cato and his son Norman.

The principal mourners present were Mr Mefyn and Pamela Davies (nephew); Mrs Ann and Phil Evans (niece); Mr Iwan Davies (nephew); Miss Daphne Hughes (niece); Mr Peter and Beverley (nephew); Mr Martyn and Thelma Lewis (niece); Mrs Lillian Hooper (sister-in-law); Christine Hooper (niece); Martin Hooper (nephew); Norman Cato (close friend) together with other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

Unable to attend were Mrs Ceri Davies (nephew’s wife) and Steven Hooper (nephew).

Bearers were Mefyn Davies and Peter Hughes (nephews); Martyn Lewis (neice’s husband); Ieuan Cato, Lloyd Twigg and Matthew Durney (friends).

The funeral service was at Capel Ucha, Solva, followed by interment at Middle Mill Cemetery and was conducted by Rev Geoffrey Eynon, with a tribute from Cllr Tom Richards who was a close friend of Dilys.

Donations in lieu of flowers made payable to “Solva Surgery” are being received by Mrs Thelma Lewis, 16 Glenover Park, Haverfordwest SA61 1HA.
