A sponsored swim for youngsters is splashing out in Narberth next month to raise funds for the Friends of Narberth Pool.
The event is yet another way of the community showing its support for the facility, which Pembrokeshire County Council want to close on April 1st.
The authority says that the 40-year-old pool - the only stand-alone council-run swimming pool in Pembrokeshire - is coming to the end of its economic life and that admission numbers were falling.
Ahead of the consultation period ending on Friday January 31, the action group from the Friends of Narberth Pool will be meeting officers next Monday (January 27) to present their business plan proposing how the facility can be independently run.
The sponsored swim, for eight to 16-year-olds, will take place on the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of half-term week (February 25-28) from noon to 3pm daily.
The function room at the pool will be open during these times for entertainment of non-swimming siblings and for refreshments for accompanying adults.
Sponsor forms will be available at the pool; via local schools and from the Friends secretary John Sleigh on JohnSleigh@aol.com
The Friends are also encouraging local people to ‘use it or lose it’ and not only make an extra effort to go along for a swim - taking along a friend if possible - but also to join one of the clubs, which including canoeing and aquafit.
