A BENTLEY-driving doctor admitted doing 87mph in a 60mph zone when he appeared before magistrates on Tuesday (January 14).
Dr Stamatios Zouras, 37, of Castle Quay, Pembroke, was driving his Bentley Continental home after a shift at Withybush Hospital when police clocked him doing almost 30mph over the speed limit on Dredgemans Hill.
The court heard Zouras already had three points on his licence for speeding.
Mr Johnathan Edwards, defending, said respiratory medicine registrar Zouras was on a ‘long, straight and familiar’ stretch of road at around 10pm when he decided to over-take two or three other vehicles heading in the same direction. Mr Edwards told the court it was during this manoeuvre Zouras was spotted by police.
“I imagine if you are driving a Bentley, driving fast is very easy and feels very safe,” Mr Edwards told the court. He added that Zouras would find it ‘very difficult’ to get to work if he was disqualified from driving.
Magistrates fined Zouras £400 and put four new points on his driving licence. They also ordered him to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £40.
