A first class refurbishment plan has been announced for Tenby Post Office to offer longer opening hours and a new modern look.
The building, in Warren Street, will be transformed into one of the Post Office’s new ’main’ style open-plan branches next month.
Around 6,000 branches in the UK - around half the Post Office network - are getting the makeover.
“This investment makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes,” said Post Office area network manager for Wales, Sue Whittall. “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in the community, and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
The new-look branch will feature a mixture of traditional screened and open-plan counter positions, with Post Office products and services available alongside retail transactions during shop opening hours. These will be from 8.30am-5.30pm, Monday to Saturday - an increase of five hours a week.
The upgrade has been welcomed by Assembly Member Joyce Watson, who commented: “Longer Saturday opening will be especially convenient for lots of people. It is good to see the Post Office investing in our communities, providing important financial services.”
The refurbished Post Office is due to open on Friday February 21 at 1pm and will close on Tuesday February 18 at 5.30pm so the work can take place. During this time, customers can use any Post Office branch, with New Hedges Post Office and Saundersfoot Post Office being the closest.
The Post Office, now independent of Royal Mail, is the largest retail network in the UK, with over 11,500 branches. It is also one of the fastest-growing financial services companies, and is developing its online and telephony services.
