MOVE over Man v Food, there’s a new kid on the block - Red Rose v Food.
A Pembroke Dock couple are holding a Man v Food-style charity evening in aid of Withybush Hospital children’s ward after their baby daughter became ill last November.
Tom and Sheena Christie, landlords of the Red Rose Inn, High Street, decided to organise the foodie fundraiser, after baby Evangeline, now 10-months-old, was admitted to hospital with a viral infection.
“Evangeline’s our first child,” said Tom. “It scared the hell out of us and obviously going over there we just realised how brilliant the staff are.”
The competition will comprise four events, the biggest of which is a four pound burger challenge. Other events will see competitors take on a 48oz rump steak, the volcanic hot wing challenge and a 4,000 calorie death by dessert, consisting of a mountain of Belgian waffles, chocolate fudge cake, various ice creams, fruit and cream.
T-shirts will be available for everyone who completes a challenge and photos of all finishers will go on the pub’s wall of fame.
“The biggest prize will, of course, be the prestige of having finished,” added Tom.
Entries cost £7.50, with all monies going straight to charity.
Red Rose v Food takes place on Monday, January 27, from 6pm onwards. Spaces are limited. Call into the pub to register for an event.
