A TALENTED film maker from St Davids will be flying the flag for homegrown talent at this year’s British Academy Film Awards.
Kieran Evans has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director and Producer category for Kelly + Victor.
The gritty drama was adapted from Niall Griffiths’ 2002 novel about a doomed love affair between a young couple, and premiered at 2012’s BFI London Film Festival.
43-year-old Kieran learned his trade directing music videos for Kylie Minogue and the Manic Street Preachers.
He admitted he was shocked after hearing he had been nominated for a BAFTA.
He said: “It’s a bit surreal really, because it was going to be just another normal day, with me going to meetings with producers, having a bite to eat and picking the kids up from school.
“But then, at around 7.40am, my phone started buzzing and I started seeing all these people tweeting their congratulations.
“I was extremely chuffed but really didn’t expect it at all because getting to attend red carpet award ceremonies isn’t the reason I initially got into film-making.”
The BAFTAS take place on Sunday, February 16 at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London.
