YET another Christmas has passed for a grieving Haverfordwest mother who is still waiting to find out what exactly happened to her daughter who died while under the care of Pembrokeshire County Council social services.
Seren Bernard died in April 2012, just one month before her 15th birthday. She had been discovered dead at Hakin Point, Milford Haven.
Since her sudden death Seren’s mother Sarah Pollock has been calling for answers as to how such a tragedy could have happened while in the care of the local authority.
She says the authorities "disregarded" her warnings that something like this would happen unless her daughter received the help and counselling she believed she needed.
Sarah maintains that her daughter was taken into care without her being given an explanation and she has been seeking the reasons behind that decision, as well as decisions made in the following two years prior to Seren’s death.
An inquest has yet to be held and reports HM Coroner for Pembrokeshire Mark Layton had requested by December 2012 have not been received.
“I’ve been trying to get answers from Pembrokeshire County Council but not getting any at all. The deadline laid out by the coroner was last December. What has he done in his power to make sure Pembrokeshire County Council are doing their work?” said Sarah.
Sarah said she has been contacting the council repeatedly and despite a number of meetings she was yet to find the answers she needs nor have sight of any reports into her daughter’s death.
“All I wish for is truth and transparency. Nothing is going to bring Seren back and unless everything is recognised and all avenues explored nothing will change at the council. I’m anxious about how long it’s all taking,” added Sarah.
Coroner, Mr Layton, said he was unable to comment on individual cases.
A spokesman for Pembrokeshire County Council said: “We are currently in communication with the Coroner in order to arrange the release of a report to him. It would therefore be inappropriate to comment further at this point.”
