PLANS are afoot to modernise Monkton Post Office with extended opening hours and a new style branch which will help secure its long-term future.

Customers of the Post Office, which is located on Long Mains, will soon be able to access products and services available between 7am and 11pm, Monday to Saturday, and 8am to 10.30pm on Sunday.

The move is part of the new-style Post Office Local which sees services operated from a counter in an established shop.

Certain key products and services will also be available during store opening hours.

Post Office area network manager for Wales Sue Whittall said: “I am delighted to announce news of an important investment in our service in Monkton.

“We know how important the Post Office service is to the community and we feel sure that our customers old and new will welcome the fresh design, modern open plan format and extended opening hours. This move will help secure Post Office services in the area for the future.”

Ms Whittall added: "This investment makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The new branch is expected to open in February.
