A WHITLAND community came together last Friday night in support of a courageous cancer sufferer.
Sharon O'Driscoll of Cefn Y Pant was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Leiomyosarcoma in 2008. This was paired with the loss of her partner who suffered a massive heart attack while lying next to her in bed.
Sharon fought the disease and enjoyed two years cancer free, but at the age of 45, she has been given the devastating news that the cancer has returned. Her condition is now terminal and only chemotherapy can prolong her life.
Before going through the gruelling treatment, Sharon, with the help of friends and family, organised a charity event in her local pub, Y Bont.
A local band and musician offered their services free of charge, while a host of local businesses donated prizes for a grand raffle.
The event raised £956, with more money yet to come in. The proceeds are being shared among local cancer charities that helped Sharon throughout her illness.
Sharon’s daughter Kirsty has nothing but admiration her mother.
She said: “I admire my mum for her sheer determination to do things for others. The success of Friday night shows how much she has touched the hearts of others during her 45 years.
“Local people and businesses donated the items not because my mother has a life-limiting condition, but because they have been touched by her generosity in her lifetime.
My sister Rebecca and I would like to thank everyone who donated a raffle prize and everyone who made the night so special.”
