A COMMUNITY cinema club, a new counselling service, an over-50s holiday and outings for a kids’ club are all to become realities in Pembrokeshire thanks to the latest round of National Lottery cash.
More than £16,000 from the Awards for All programme will be shared by four community-based projects in the county.
They include a plan to bring the silver screen to the doorstep of villagers in the Manorbier, Jameston, Lydstep and Manorbier Newton areas, thanks to £3,965 awarded to set up a community cinema facility.
The South Ridgeway Community Association will use the money to buy projection equipment for their community centre.
They plan to hold regular film nights, a Saturday morning cinema club for children and special screenings for residents of two local homes for adults with learning disabilities.
The Cilgerran-based Over- 50s Wednesday Club gets £5,000 towards the cost of a five-day trip to Chester for up to 40 people.
And youngsters who go to the holiday club, The Funhouse, in Haverfordwest – Prendergast School’s afterschool club – can now look forward to a range of social and educational outings.
Funding of £1,930 has been given to the club to take 70 children, aged between three and 14, on the trips.
Family counselling service grant boost
A NEW counselling service to help families in west Wales has been given a £4,545 grant.
The free weekly drop-in sessions at the Adlerian Society of Wales offices in St James Street, Narberth, will give parents and carers the chance to talk through family issues and access family counselling services.
A further £1,600 has been received for the project from the Ray Gravell and Friends Charitable Trust.
The drop-in sessions, which are open during term time from 10am to noon, are open to people living in Pembrokeshire and western parts of Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.
“There is growing demand for the types of services we offer, and we are seeing a lot more families and young people needing help and support, whether as a result of divorce, financial hardship or bullying at school,” said Linda Edwards, director of the Adlerian Society of Wales.
