There is not a woman I know that isn’t concerned with wrinkles, whether it’s the little ones creeping in around the eyes, the big red ones you sometimes get from how you slept to the deep wrinkles that will never go. It’s also becoming a worry for some men too, so I have put together eight easy steps to help you fight the wrinkle onslaught.
Gently exfoliate Exfoliating or buffing helps get rid of dull skin flakes and boosts cell renewal which is the key to a vibrant, fresh complexion. Do be gentle though, you can damage the skins protective barrier if you rub to hard and it can also make your skin red and irritated. A facecloth will do the job, but do wash it in the machine regularly to avoid bacteria, or try a facial scrub, buff or exfoliator and use a few times a week.
Sun protection must be worn To help prevent wrinkles, lines and age spots, you need to wear sun protection all year round. Anything with a SPF of 15 or higher will help prevent ageing and wrinkles and if your really serious then use a sun cream as well as your daily moisturiser and go for a high factor as UVA rays can penetrate even on a cloudy day.
A little bit of massage goes a long way Just a few minutes of daily facial massage will really boost circulation, improve skin tone and may also help your daily moisturisers ingredients penetrate deeper. Start with gently sweeping movements working up your neck, you can be firm but not rough, then work from side to side across your jaw line, you can also gently pinch across your jaw line and eyebrows, which is also a great tension release, tap, like you’re playing a piano quickly all over your face, including under your eyes, then just gently place both hands over your face, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths and relax.
Radiance in a bottle Poor skin tone can really play a huge part in making you look older with wrinkles, brown spots and pigmentation can add years to how you look. A toned and even looking skin will always look younger and healthier. Radiance enhancing products will blur imperfections and also reduce their impact. If you wear make-up you can also conceal these pigmentation and age spots as well as choosing foundation designed for older skin types with radiance boosting affects.
Don’t forget your neck The skin on your neck is dryer , thinner and often more sensitive than the skin on your face. Firming neck creams are richer than face creams and can have ingredients to help prevent crepiness and that necklace look of lines around your neck. Your skin does thin with age as does the underlying fat cells under your skin, so any harsh dieting can also have a drastic affect, so if you do go on a diet, make sure it’s sensible at that you support the skin on your neck too.
Keep your make-up light As you age a lot of women apply more foundation than they need to hide a multitude of skin issues. Using too much foundation and powder can make your skin look mask like and more wrinkled. Try using an illuminating base instead, or try mineral make-up which has a softer finish than traditional make-up products. A natural toned bronzer will give a healthy glow and a sheer lipstick that has a non drying formula will make you look much fresher. You could also try have your eyebrows shaped and tinted and also have your eyelashes tinted, it really makes a huge difference to your appearance.
Spend your cash wisely Whatever you use on your skin, be it shop bought or from your skin care specialist, make sure you follow the instructions. For anti aging creams to really make a difference you need to apply the recommended amount daily for at least six weeks., don’t expect them all to work instantly, use them until you finish them.
Spring Clean Throw away any products you’ve had for over two years, they will have gone off, most products now have a symbol on the packaging somewhere of a little jar and a number, this is how long you should keep it for. I find it helpful to put a sticker on the item when I open it so I know when it will go off. Also get rid of any old make-up, mascara over a year old should be chucked and you shouldn’t use anything over two years old. Do wash your make-up brushes weekly, don’t let them fester in a dirty make-up bag, give that a wash too, you might find if you’re getting regular breakouts it could be from your make-up brushes.
