There has been a lot of concern this week regarding potential job losses at the Chevron Refinery in Pembrokeshire. The firm has told staff that it is planning to restructure its activities. I have contacted the company to request an urgent meeting to discuss the implications of its announcement on the site in Pembrokeshire.
Although there has not been any specific announcement regarding the future of this site, it has inevitabley caused a great deal of concern in the area, and we have to remember that the wider Pembrokeshire economy depends so much on these jobs. I've contacted the Minister for Economic Development, Plaid's Ieuan Wyn Jones, and he has also been in contact with the company and is planning a visit to the site in the near future. There has been recent investment to upgrade the site and I'm sure Chevron is fully aware of the huge advantages there are to maintaining such a strong base in Pembrokeshire - especially with such a hard working, skilled and dedicated workforce that has proven its worth over the years.
