On Monday evening, I sat in the public gallery as the Johnston Community Council, at the Johnston Institute. To be more truthful, I was the public! All one of me!

One item discussed is what makes a village become a town.

Already, Johnston claims it is the largest village in Pembrokeshire, though I read that Saundersfoot calls itself a village, yet Googling Saundersfoot, it is often described as a town.

With new houses being built on Pond Bridge and an application in to build over 150 on the field near the lights on the Milford Road, Johnston is due to increase in size by a large amount in such a short period of time, by 300 houses.

My idea of a town has shops such as banks, supermarkets and other known stores. So I do not think Virgo's Fish & Chip shop and Cape Collections qualify, though the village does have its own charity shop, which you normally associate with towns.

I suppose Johnston could change its name to JOHNSTOWN and whilst it may cause confusion with the Johnstown near Carmarthen, there are plenty of duplicated village names in Wales - Bethlehem, Saron, New Inn ... theyre virtually ten a penny, so maybe we can become Johnstown, even if we officially remain a village as there's no record of an animal market in Johnston...

I'm quite happy to remain a village and keep the likes of Tesco's ... OUT! After all, there are 3 Tesco's within an 8 mile radius of Johnston.
