Wootton Bassett has become synonymous with the town in Wiltshire that stops to honour the coffins of British servicemen, that come back to the UK from Aghanistan.
It also happens to be a town from my home county of Wiltshire and I hope that it will be honoured in due course with the name "Royal", as many have called for.
I looked at the Wiltshire page on the BBC news website and I am disturbed to see that a group called Islam4UK is proposing to hold a peaceful march through the town, with symbolic coffins to represent Muslim vistims of the war in Afghanistan. Islam4UK call itself a platform for the extremist movement al-Muhajiroun.
A former Mayor Wotton Bassett has called for the march not to go ahead and I have also e-mailed my own concerns to a friend of mine, from many years ago, who is also on the Town Council.
There is no reason for such a march to be held in Wootton Bassett and its fairly obvious to anyone that if it did, it will attract such groups as the BNP and the EDL (English Defence League), as well as more respectable parties and individuals.
If this is not a most obvious threat to the peace, I cannot imagine the Police allowing it to go ahead.
Yes, Muslims have been killed in Afganistan and Iraq and we see many Muslims being killed by suicide bombers and other bombs in Pakistan, on a daily basis. Whether they are Al Queda or Taliban bombers, they are Muslims killing fellow Muslims ON PURPOSE and Muslims are also killing their kin in Afghanistan.
I trust common sense will ensure the march does not go ahead in Wootton Bassett which is a peaceful market town.
