I must admit to not being a medical expert and when the Roman Catholic spouted venomous words at Catholic MP's not to support the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill because it would create Frankenstein monsters, it made me do some investigation as to whether he was right, or were we seeing the modern day equivalent of burning Protestants at the stake, from the Catholic church.
From what I can see, the research is designed to find a cure for illnesses such as Alzheimers and when a respected person like Lord Winston, who has been at the forefront of developments such as IVF treatment, says the Archbishop was lying, I guess that comment was not made without great care and consideration.
I could mention that the Catholic Church is against the use of condoms, which would make a great inroad in the fight against HIV/AIDS, which is killing millions in places such as Africa. So why do the Catholic Church insist on telling Catholic MP's how to vote?
This worries me as I now wonder when an MP will put their personal religious beliefs, over what is good for their constituents or the good of the UK (or Wales, if you are an AM).
It would be interesting to know what religious issues our elected representatives consider to be far superior, than the views of their electors.
All the comments I have read in response to the Archbishop's comments, show the Catholic Church to be wrong and seem to show they are happy for millions to suffer from diseases that this research could ultimately cure and the MP's should politely tell the Archbishop and the others, where to go, once the facts are explained to them.
