It was announced this afternoon that the Health Minister has approved the merger of the three west Wales health trusts into a single trust. This is extremely disappointing bearing in mind that Pembrokeshire Community Health Council voted against the plan. It is also annoying that the consultation excercise was not extended to the general public who overwhelmingly voted against this proposal last year at every public meeting held to discuss health re-organisation. So much for listening to the people. A creation of one single trust could result in vital health services being transferred from Pembrokeshire to other parts of the new super trust. Like any large organisation it is always the peripheries that suffer and bearing in mind Pembrokeshire will be on the periphery of this new trust it could be our County that suffers. It is also true to say that funding usually follows the population which in this case will be based in the south east corner of the new trust. This is bad news for Pembrokeshire.
