Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan, has just the thing to get everyone in the mood for Valentine’s Day — an evening of sultry tango dancing, sure to melt the hardest of hearts tomorrow (Thursday).
Four of the world’s leading tango dancers, accompanied by musical virtuosos Tango Siempre, present Tangomotion, a stunningly choreographed and breathtaking show that will take you to the heart of Tango Argentino.
From traditional tango dance to the intoxicating rhythms of 1930s Buenos Aires and the powerful Nuevo Tango music of Astor Piazzolla, this show is Argentinean through and through, bringing the passion, energy and spirit of Latin America to the stage.
The dancers, Giraldo Escobar, Alexandra Wood, David Benitez and Kim Schwarz, have previously appeared in the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing; Tango Por Dos; the Channel 4 film, Dance; Sally Potter’s Covent Garden production of Carmen and Madonna’s film, Evita.
Tango Siempre’s music is passionate, intense, soulful and unique. Past performances at Theatr Mwldan have been a real crowd pleaser, but the addition of the four dancers as well as Argentinean vocalist Guillermo Rozenthuler on this occasion should truly make this a night to remember. Tickets for Tangomotion are £15 (£14 concessions). To book, call the box office on 01239 621200, or visit www.mwldan.co.uk. Continuing the romantic theme, and promising to get the blood pumping, is Sue Robinson, who will share her passion for dance at Rhosygilwen on Friday.
When Sue came to live in Cilgerran, she began teaching rock ‘n’ roll, ballroom and salsa dancing, helping others to enjoy the fun and sociability of popular dance.
Her Valentine dance at Neuadd y dderwen, Rhosygilwen’s impressive oak hall, is the perfect setting to waltz the night away.
With live music from the 1950s, plus ballroom classics and Latin tunes, romance is sure to blossom on the dance floor.
“Rhosygilwen is definitely the place to strut your stuff. Whether you come with a partner or not, this Valentine’s evening will be fun and lively.
“It’s the perfect occasion to bring out your passion for dance,” said Sue.
She added: “I believe dancing is one of the most sociable ways of spending our leisure time. Age doesn’t matter, to have fun and meet people through dancing is an expression of oneself. “To me there’s a certain romance to dance, whether it’s the grace and style of ballroom or the raw energy and exuberance of Latin American.
“There is no better way to enjoy life, make new friends and keep fit.”
Tickets are £8 from www.rhosygilwen.co.uk and doors open at 7.30pm.
