Opera fans are in for a treat this month when Theatr Mwldan takes advantage of its status as one of the few cinemas in Wales with a digital projector to screen two shows from Glyndebourne opera house.

Theatr Mwldan has teamed up with Glyndebourne for the first two of its big screen events, which will continue throughout the autumn.

Glyndebourne is renowned for its high artistic standards and was the first UK opera house to screen performances in cinemas.

The first Glyndebourne opera is Hansel und Gretel on Sunday, November 9th at 2.30pm.

Shot at Glyndebourne’s first ever staging of the opera during its 2008 festival, this adorable masterpiece is fresh, poetic, witty and imaginative.

Like all great fairy tales, the story has darker underpinnings, and the opera combines romanticism, lyricism and exuberant playfulness in a vibrantly rich orchestration that is clearly influenced by the music of Brahms and Wagner.

The next screening in the series will be La Cenerentola on Thursday, December 4th.

A long way from opera is tribute act Stairway to Zeppelin, which will be at Theatr Mwldan on Friday, November 14th, at 7.30pm.

Stairway To Zeppelin combines all the aspects of the Led Zeppelin experience — rock classics, keyboard orientated material and the acoustic/mandolin interlude, all performed with authentic period instruments, amps, drums and costumes to create a truly original sound.

Stairway to Zeppelin has played hundreds of shows to enthusiastic audiences across Britain and Europe and is regarded as the world’s number one Led Zeppelin experience.

The band promises a long show so fans are advised to come early.

Tickets for Hansel und Gretel are £12 (£10 concessions) and Stairway to Zeppelin tickets are £13.50 (£12.50 concessions), both available from the box office on 01239 623928.
