The quest for great music at prices to beat the credit crunch continues at the Queens Hall on Friday, November 7th, as Span Arts and Molara present the global dance rhythms of Zubop Gambia and guests.
The London-based musicians play 100% original, highly danceable music, pulling in sounds from across the world from South Africa to South America and beyond.
Described as irresistible, high spirited and full of fun, Zubop Gambia is a collaboration between London-based worldbeat music group Zubop and the West African master musicians Mosi Conde (vocals, kora, balafon, guitar, djembe) and Njega Sohna (djembe, talking drum, vocals).
Their performances bring together the musical interests and influences of everyone involved, to include not only traditional West African pieces, but elements of jazz, township music, pop, reggae, blues and many other styles.
In 2007, they began a highly fruitful collaboration with multi talented local singer, Molara, who will share the stage with them. Also featuring in this truly unmissable night are the sublime sounds of DJ Earthdoctor, the mellow Mbira and the rich voice of Tapiti, plus special appearances on the night.
Tickets are £7 in advance and £9 on the door. Call Span Arts on 01834 869323.
