Fishguard Arts Society is getting ready for the first exhibition in its ARTSfest season at Fishguard Junior School this weekend, with the theme coast, sea and sky.
The exhibition begins on Saturday and features a wide selection of fine art by local artists and those from further afield.
The work will be on show until April 4th and will be open to the public every day (apart from Easter Sunday) from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
The ARTSfest activities continue on Tuesday, March 25th when a children's junk workshop will be held with Buzz Knapp-Fisher. Beginning at 10.30am at the junior school this is sure to be a very popular event.
Kids can have fun making sculptures out of clay, paint and found objects with Buzz, an artist who has worked with junk for more than 20 years and exhibited his work throughout Europe.
Buzz is so environmentally friendly, he even drives a car made from scrap and fuelled by chip fat. He is also director of the not-for-profit organisation usEnergy, a charity concerned about the destruction of the environment and the way it will affect the lives of future generations.
The organisation even has a community bio-diesel pump, which supplies locally sourced bio-diesel for Goodwick and Fishguard. Admission is free but booking is advised.
* On Thursday, March 27th, a printing workshop with Carole King is sure to bring out the artistic side in everyone. The Newcastle Emlyn-based artist has many years experience in painting and print-making.
Anyone with an interest in art is welcome and the workshop will begin with the basics, with Carole taking everyone right through the whole process.
A portable etching press, which Carole takes around west Wales to workshops, will be set up at the school and those involved will take home an individual piece of artwork.
The process begins with a simple picture and the image is then built up using layers of colour. The workshop runs from 11am to 4pm and booking is essential. Tickets are £12 for the day. Places can be booked by calling Carole on 01559 370276.
* On Sunday, March 30th, ARTSfest heads to Fishguard Garden Centre, where Helen Campbell will be holding a living willow workshop from 10.30am to 3.30pm. Helen teaches willow weaving skills and has had a wide range of experience teaching people how to create living sculptures.
Booking is essential and tickets are £18 including materials. Contact the arts society on 01348 891610 and check fishguardartssociety.org.uk for more details and other events added to the ARTSfest programme.
