MEIC Stevens will be rocking the Cellar Bar in Cardigan on Friday night (May 10, 8pm).
Meic has been, without doubt, the major figure of Welsh popular music since the 1970s. He has composed a wealth of songs, and performed them in his own inspired but erratic fashion for four decades, and is still going strong.
He grew up in Solva, Pembrokeshire, but has lived in Cardiff for many years. He has played a key part in the development of Welsh contemporary music and helped to pioneer the art of studio recording in Wales.
Meic made his first album, ‘Outlander’ for Warner Brothers during the 60s, but returned to work in Wales, and helped Sain with the early recordings. He recorded for Welsh label ‘Dryw’ and others, and now all these early tracks are available on the acclaimed triple-CD set “Disgwyl rhywbeth gwell i ddod“.
Since the early 80s, most of his recordings have been for SAIN. Through his live performances, his recordings, and his compositions, Meic has inspired thousands of people, and inspired countless other singers and composers.
His biography has been published in Welsh and English, as well as several collections of his songs. One of the most recorded Welsh artists, he still performs regularly.
Tickets for the gig at the Quay Street venue cost £10.
On Saturday night, the Cellar Bar hosts Nigel Davies and the Good Companions, with Celtic fiddle champion Jamie Nemeth. Doors from 7pm, tickets £8 and £6 concessions.
