Haverfordwest Badminton Club will host the prestigious West Wales Graded Badminton Competition in 2024.

For the first time, the club has been chosen to host the tournament, a significant event in the calendar of Badminton Wales, the national governing body of the sport.

Club chair Dan Jenkins expressed his enthusiasm during an announcement to members.

He said: "It’s been well over 30 years since Pembrokeshire has hosted a Badminton Wales national tournament so it’s fantastic to see it return.

"Last year’s West Wales leg was held in Neath so I’m pleased to see Haverfordwest Badminton Club being awarded it this year and making it a truly West Wales event."

Mr Jenkins emphasised the significance of hosting the event.

He continued: "The four graded competitions are crucial in players calendars and help Badminton Wales pick their Wales squad for the national competitions.

"Hosting this in Haverfordwest means that we will see some of the top players from across Wales, as well as giving local players the opportunity to take part in a high-level event on their doorstep.

"It really is a fantastic achievement to host this tournament."

Western Telegraph:

A successful sponsorship deal with Valero supported the club's winning bid for the tournament.

Stephen Thornton, manager of public affairs for the company, said: "Hosting this event is a fantastic achievement for Haverfordwest Badminton Club and for the sport in the county.

"Valero’s ethos is all about promoting inclusivity and excellence and this event encapsulates both.

"We’re proud to sponsor this competition and wish the organisers and competitors the best of luck."

The tournament is set for Saturday, June 29.

Spectators are invited to join in the action, free of charge, with additional details to be released via the club's website in due course.
