Last week I was interviewed for the next edition of Rugby World – there’s an early warning for you – make sure you head out to the shops to pick up a copy. I’d like to thank Dai Jones and the staff at Plas Hyfryd for hosting us at short notice too.
The interview was due to take place in Parc y Scarlets but the sickness bug meant that we were all told to stay away. Thankfully I hadn’t been struck down so the guys had an unexpected trip down West. As always, beautiful Pembrokeshire didn’t disappoint welcoming them with glorious sunshine. I couldn’t believe it when they were telling me they’d had hailstones on the way down through Cross Hands!
As I said, we were all told to stay away from the Parc on Thursday. The bug had struck down half the squad. Not nice! Most of us were back in on Friday, some of the boys were still feeling fragile but we got through the team walkthrough and headed home pretty sharpish to avoid spreading it even more!
The nature of the sickness bug meant that we were firing on all cylinders for the game on Saturday but we can’t use that as an excuse. We were all bitterly disappointed with the performance. Glasgow were by far the better team on the day and deserved winners.
It makes the run in to the season even tougher now needing to go away to the Stadium to face Dragons and away to Ireland on the last weekend to face Munster. With the European semi finals next weekend, and no PRO12 game, we have a fortnight to put things right.
I headed back West after the game on Saturday and went for food in Tenby with my mate Clarky - although I had to cart him around as he’s in a cast with an ankle injury he had playing for Narberth!
I went for a walk on Newgale beach after that, jibbed out on going in to the sea – it was too cold and I was feeling fragile in body and spirit after the result. It was good to catch up with the family on Saturday night and Erika’s Dundee cake was a great pick me up so cheers for that!
It’s a normal training week for us this week; plenty to work on and a huge derby to prepare for.
