A former Western Telegraph reporter has been appointed the new mayor of St Davids.
Cllr Chris Taylor, who has been a member of the City Council for four years, was handed the chain of office at the council’s annual general meeting last Monday, May 9th.
He told the Western Telegraph he was keen to become involved in local events and support the community, while promoting the historic city’s standing across Pembrokeshire and beyond.
Cllr Taylor, who runs a bookshop in the city, and is a past news editor of the County Echo, stated he wants to be a ‘fair and reasonable chairman’, and do as many things as he can to support activities, groups and events in the area.
He also plans to improve the council’s relationship with the National Park Authority, and work on communication issues between the two organisations during his term of office.
Cllr Taylor said: “I’m looking forward to it. I just want to do my best for my community.
“It’s a great community with a lot of people doing a lot of good things and I want to support them.
“I want to be an approachable mayor, and will be happy to speak to anyone who wants me to support them.”
Cllr Taylor has been involved with the council and the community for many years, and was actively involved in getting city status for St Davids.
As chairman of the Lesotho Committee he hopes to see the links between the two communities continue to go from strength to strength.
Cllr John George was appointed as deputy mayor, and the mayor’s chaplain will be Rev Dorian Davies.
The civic service will be held in the cathedral on June 19th.
