BJP Reports: An excellent trade with a high quality entry of cattle. An entry of in-calvers/ bulling heifers sold to brisk trade with the in-calvers averaging £840 and the bulling heifers averaging £850. Calves sold to a very good trade. Dairy cattle (37): Dairy cows (10) £1,880, Jones, The Elms; dairy heifers (8) £2,420, Jones and son, Rhos Farm; recorded cow (1) £1,180, Collins, Maeslan; recorded heifers (10) £3,400, Law, Lanfryn; in-calver (1) £840, Davies, Penybedd Farm; bulling heifer (1) £850, Davies, Penybedd Farm. Calves (256) overall average £141.84. Bulls: £325, Belgian Blue, Gower, Llettyrychen Fawr; £320, Charolais, Jones, Bodist Uchaf; £272, Limousin Edwards, Glantowy Farm. Heifers: £280, Limousin, Roberts, Penygoitre; £226, Belgian Blue, Griffiths, Parsonage., £220, Simmental, Davies, Heatherton Farm.

Dai Lewis Auctioneers reports: Another good entry (1,218). Lambs saw a brisk run throughout, and stores saw a fluid trade along with culls. Overall average 133.2 p/kg. Leading prices: 143.3, 134.2, 129.7, Evans, Cribor Fach, Pontsian, Llandysul; 142.5, Jones, Penrheol, Cwmsychbant, Llanybydder; 142.1, 141.1, 140.8, 137.7, 137.3, Jones, Pantycetris, Talgarreg, Llandysul. Clean sheep 46.4 p/kg. Store lambs overall average £34.31. BJP reports: A very good trade for barren cows and good quality entries for store cattle. Barren and over 30 months cattle (94) overall average 110p/kg. Tested barren cows (22) £830; tested steer (1) £675; untested barren cows (91) £1,060; untested steers (4) £1,090; untested bulls (3) £825. Store cattle (224) steers: Limousin, £985, Dyer, Bryndawe Land; Belgian Blue, £838, Mills, Graig Farm; Charolais, £760, Protheroe, Bont Farm. Heifers: Limousin, £740, Mills, Graig Farm; Aberdeen Angus, £690, Phillips, Moor Farm; Belgian Blue, £660, Layton, Kittle Hill Farm. Sheep (821) sold well with good trade on new season lambs and butchers ewes and rams. Lambs (608) overall average 130.97p/Kg. Lambs 25.5-32 (106) 141, Beynon, Brynysgallog; 32.1-39 (247) 145, James, Llwyn Yr Eos; 39.1-45.5 (243) 142, Thomas, Blaencwmdu; 45.6-52 (11) 130, Bwlchyfedwen; 52.1+ (1) 88, Stephens, Bryncaws Butchers ewes (204) average 30, maximum 51, George, Pantiauau. July 5th

J. J. Morris reports: An excellent entry of store cattle (435). There was a very good demand for the best quality cattle, although trade was slightly more selective on second quality types. Steers overall average £590. Leading prices: £950, £882 , £862, £858, £840, £820, £810, Lloyd, Pencwm, Moylegrove; £920, Roberts, Parke, Henllan Amgoed; £880, £855, £852, £822, Jenkins and son, Lower House Farm, Spittal. Heifers overall average £525. Top prices: £900, £780, £690, Harries, Pantyffynnon, Cwmfelin Boeth; £835, Roberts, Parke, Henllan Amgoed; £805, Phillips, Esgerddeugoed, Cwmfelin Mynach. Young bulls overall average £495. Top prices: £615, £500, Davies and sons, Rhydymaen, Felindre Farchog; £575, £530, 525, Jones, Pantyrefail, Llanfynnydd; £490, Richards, Cwmcelynen, Pumpsaint. Grazing cows (20) and six overage cattle, once again sold to a steady trade. Top price was £990 for a 870kg Charolais from Stevens, Salt House, Laugharne. Others: £835, Phillips, Esgerddeugoed, Cwmfelin Mynach; £830, James, Iscoed, Whitland. Overall average £555, 93.5ppk. Overage steers sold to £620 for a 570kg Friesian from Davies and sons, Rhydymaen, Felindre Farchog. Suckler cows (35) sold to a very good trade with a top price of £1,530 for a pedigree Limousin cow with her bull calf at heel from Phillips, Esgerddeugoed, Cwmfelin Mynach. Other leading prices: £1,245, Phillips and son, Tredafydd Isaf, Pontfaen; £1,170, Rees, Kiln Park Farm, Narberth. The overall average for cows and calves was £880. In-calvers (4) sold to £705 from Soloman, Campbell Farm, South Dairy and averaged £634. Two pedigree Limousin bulls sold to a very good demand with a top price of £1,880 from Jones and co, Bailea Farm, Heol Senni and £1,480 from Currier, Pencraig, Henfwlch Road, Carmarthen.

Cardigan

July 7th

J. J. Morris reports: Another busy market, with more than 60 cull cows entered. Store cattle sold well as did dairy cattle. More cows with calves and more than 700 sheep. Lambs saw a slight drop, cull ewes sold well, as did calves. Store cattle (103) steers: £770, Lewis, Glanllynan, Cardigan; £735, Phillips, Trebared, Cardigan; £692, £510, Williams, Troedyrhiw, Ferwig.
